      The article discusses the experience of several screenwriters and their transition into directors including Sarah Kernochan, William Richert, and Caroline Thompson. Particular focus is given to their struggles during their first direction debut including Kernochan's struggle with her first direction movie ``9 1/2 Weeks,'' and ``All I Wanna Do,'' Richert's direction of ``Winter Kills,'' and ``Law and Disorder,'' and Thompson's direction of ``Edward Scissorhands,'' and ``The Nightmare Before Christmas.''
