    • Abstract:
The article elaborates philosopher Rene Girard's concept of romantic lie and the mimetic element of triangular desire in Jane Austen's novel"Sense and Sensibility." It explores the manifestation of mimetic desire in the romantic sensibility of Mariane Dashwood in contrast with her sister's sense and in her feud with Edward Ferrars on the aesthetic appreciation of picturesque. It describes the love-hate triangular relationships and the solipsistic attraction between Marianne and Willoughby.
