    • Abstract:
This article profiles author Florence Parry Heide. Heide was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 27, 1919. While growing up, words were very important in Heide's life. Her widowed mother, a columnist for the Pittsburgh Press and a drama critic, was a strong influence, encouraging Heide to use her creativity. Much of Heide's work has been done in collaboration with her children, including the picture book The Day of Ahmed's Secret.
