    • Abstract:
An encyclopedia entry for bipolar flaking is presented. It is a technique whereby the core to be flaked is placed or held on an anvil and hit with a hammer, resulting in flakes being removed from both ends of the core. Bipolar cores are known from many parts of Australia and Tasmania. They occur in the late Pleistocene as well as in recent times.
