      The article focuses on the different meaning of rain and water that reflect each culture's unique experience with the universe in the southwest U.S. and Mexico. The ceramics and jewelry reflect the expressions of rain in Zuni culture. The meaning of rain in Diné is integrated with the origins of weaving. Tohono O'odhan people of the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona have based their residential patterns, agriculture, and food gathering on detailed knowledge of the Southwest's two rainy seasons.
