THE FACULTY OF LAW IN SARAJEVO - CHALLENGES THROUGH TIME. (English)
    • Subject Terms:
    • Abstract:
The subject of this paper is to analyze the structure of graduates (male and female) from 1950 to 2011, the structure of persons who have obtained degrees of Master of Science in Legal Studies and Doctor of Legal (Juridical) Sciences at the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo. The analysis had been conducted from a gender perspective, which points to the indicators of changes in the field of legal education. The results of the analysis have shown that from the dominant majority to an approximately equal participation in the structure of graduates (male and female graduated students), men are becoming a minority, and, thus, today, they make up less than one third in the structure of regular students (male and female) at the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo. There has been an analysis of the present trend of feminization, which indicates a loss of power, prestige, and opportunities that this profession offers in the context of changes that occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina. An analysis has also been conducted with regards to the structure of persons who obtained degrees of Master of Science in Legal Studies and Doctor of Legal (Juridical) Sciences at the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo, where men remain the majority with a present increase in the number of women who have acquired these post-graduate degrees. The second part of the paper is devoted to the analysis of persons in all academic professions and the tendencies present at the Law Faculty in Sarajevo. From a predominantly "male" faculty, feminization is present in all assistant profession categories, indicating that the University as a whole, as well as individual faculties, is ceasing to be a power center and a desirable place for a professional career.. Under the current circumstances, work at the faculty entails many teaching obligations, limited time for scientific work, and lower wages compared to the opportunities that exist in other professions outside of the academic community. The third section analyzes the situation in the field of legal education and discusses the measures that the faculty can take to regain its reputation and status in the changed social, political, and economic conditions. • Abstract:
