    • Abstract:
The creation of hundreds— and possibly thousands— of new hotel rooms in downtown Detroit by mid-decade will be very good for business and leisure travelers, and meeting planners. But those new rooms could be a challenge to older, existing hotels, such as the Hotel Pontchartrain. Detroit's downtown hotel inventory is expected to grow from 2,753 rooms as of 2002 to as many as 5,000 in the next few years. Detroit's three casinos aren't relying on convention business to fill rooms at the hotels planned for their permanent complexes. The three are planning a total of 1,200 rooms. The article further provides data regarding hotel growth in Detroit.
