      The article examines the portrayals of Chinese and Asian identity and culture in Spanish Caribbean dance music. Topics covered include the ways in which Chinese contributions to Cuban national culture helped created syncretic practices, the articulation of the musical images of the Chinese through instrumental compositions in the dance genre of danzon and the portrayal by Cuban Chinese musicians of themselves.
