The article discusses the Northern Paiute activist and author Sarah Winnemucca's 1880 trip to Washington, D.C. (District of Columbia) to restore to the Paiutes the Malheur Reservation in Oregon following their removal to Yakima (Yakama) Reservation in Washington territory. An overview of the U.S. government's colonial tactics towards the Paiutes, including its surveillance of their population, is provided. The commemorative statue of Winnemucca in Washington D.C. is discussed.
