      Presents the views of an Israeli about the Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz, who became famous with the publication of "The Cairo Trilogy" and his winning the Egyptian National Prize. Observation that the trilogy wove a tale around three generations extending from 1917 to 1943; Years in which Cairene society went through a metamorphosis from a medieval patriarchal society to a new activism-oriented generation that included communists and Muslim radicals.
