      The article examines the struggle of the working class in Great Britain to obtain welfare provision in the late 19th to the mid-20th centuries. The objective of the capitalist state is discussed which is to preserve the social relations of exploitation. Topics include Marxists' criticisms on welfare, social policy in a capitalist society, and the advantages that welfare provision offer to capitalism. Also discussed are the role of labor in welfare change and call for social provision.
