    • Abstract:
The article offers an analysis of tuition discounting at 125 liberal arts colleges aimed to address some questions related to college cost and financial aid. Topics covered include the reasons that tuition-dependent colleges tend to give discounts in aid and merit scholarships to much larger percentages of their students than colleges with substantial budget support from endowments, and the tendency of richer schools to give need-based aid, but not merit scholarship.
