- Abstract:
  The article discusses high-performance aircraft used by the U.S. Navy's Third and Seventh fleets against the Japanese during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines in October 1944. Topics covered include the Grumman-Eastern TBF/TBM Avenger torpedo bomber's status as the most widely employed aircraft at Leyte Gulf, missions of the Curtiss SBC2 Helldiver carrier-based dive bomber aircraft, and the flight of Grumman's F6F Hellcat fighter aircraft from fast carriers.
