- Abstract: The article features the former Catholic hospital, Saint Vincent's Hospital that existed in New York City from 1849-2010. Topics covered include how the hospital founded by the Sisters of Charity pioneered AIDS care and become a haven for gay men during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s and 1990s, its legacy in serving the poor and indigent, and the struggles that the hospital went through early on when it came to its response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
