    • Abstract:
I After Insurgency i , by Ralph Sprenkels, is the tremendous culmination of a lifetime of experience with El Salvador's former guerillas. Unlike most of the literature on El Salvador's postwar transition, Sprenkels is attentive to the complex internal relations that structured the FMLN both during the conflict and in peacetime. In the name of unity, the FMLN agreed to dissolve its PMO factions, but Sprenkels reveals how historical loyalties and animosities have remained essential determinants of internal party politics and social movement dynamics.
