      The article examines the ties of jihadi poetry to Islamic extremism to better understand the motivations and ideology behind atrocities by militant Islamic groups. Topics discussed are history of Islam and poetry from the days of Prophet Muhammad, historic prevalence of jihadi poetry and its use as a political strategy, poetry as a form of resistance to Islamic extremism as well as of understanding radical Islam and Islamic beliefs, and use of poetry to combat jihadism and radical Islam.
