      The article discusses the catastrophes faced by the theater sector in history, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and the influenza outbreak in 1918. Also cited are the deaths of Philadelphians after their mayor refused to cancel the 1918 Liberty Loan Parade, the closures of theaters in both pandemics, and the key role played by theater as public entertainment and as measure of state of affairs.
