    • Abstract:
The article attributes the alleged failure of the U.S. to adequately respond to the COVID-19 pandemic to a lack of government funding for research and manufacturing of pandemic response products such as face masks, nasopharyngeal swabs, and polymerase chain reaction testing reagents. The alleged historical role of the U.S. government in fostering innovation is scrutinized along with the alleged public health and economic benefits of funding such innovation.
