This article focuses on the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation's pilot program for Holocaust education in schools in Evansville, Indiana. For their first project, in 1999, the women had used a $4,000 grant from the local Jewish Community Council to promote Holocaust education. In the years since, they've gained entree into area schools, received key support from the two local universities, raised significant corporate dollars and allied themselves with the local Catholic diocese. In its vetting process, the foundation found that Evansville had all the characteristics that could make the project work.
