This article profiles several Native American female authors. Linda Hogan deftly explores the traditional Indigenous relationship with nature and its more tormented contemporary side in her poetry, fiction and nonfiction writings. Paula Gunn Allen is credited as the founder of the academic field of American Indian Literary Studies and has created a legacy in university English departments that will last for generations. Louise Erdrich has published collections of poetry, several works of nonfiction and a new series of children's books. Her novels have been bestsellers and award winners and are considered classics in the genre of Native American literature.
