    • Abstract:
The article presents an overview of treatment options for female pelvic pain disorders. Pain disorders can be a result of physical or psychological factors, or a combination. The article focuses on neuromuscular disorders. Working with a team of women's health care providers, including a sex therapist or counselor and a physician, women and their partners become active participants in treating pain. The article suggests pelvic floor strengthening exercises, dilators, and changes in sexual position as means of treatment. Emphasis is placed on the importance of a understanding clinical approach, as most women with this problem have already suffered emotionally by the time they seek treatment.
