    • Abstract:
This article discusses the history of the founding of "African American Review" journal in the U.S. According to the author, the publication was first published in 1967 under the name "Negro American Literature Forum" and under the imprint of Indiana State University's School of Education with English professor John Bayliss as editor. When Hannah L. Hedrick succeeded Bayliss for the editorship, she spearheaded in developing connections with leading publishers of African American literature and in making the journal an important part of the larger scholarly community, thus changing the name of the journal to "Black American Literature Forum." Details on further developments leading the journal to adopt its current name is further highlighted in the article.
