      The article focuses on the threshold issue of whether volunteer Election Day lawyers are engaged in the practice of law and if that activity is unauthorized. It highlights the rules concerning practice of law in eight specific jurisdictions which includes, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Maryland Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. The article also discusses the exceptions to the practice of law standards with regards to the model rule jurisdiction, and crime and punishment.
