      The article outlines the geographical, political and economic background of Angola. The country is located on the South Atlantic Coast of West Africa between Namibia and the Republic of the Congo. Its land area is 1,246,700 square kilometers with estimated population of 16,000,000 as of 2008. Among its large cities are Luanda, Huambo and Benguela. It is headed by a president who is assisted by a prime minister and 31 cabinet ministers. Its legal system is based on Portuguese and customary law.
