    • Abstract:
The article looks at the impact of state budgetary problems on the operation and management of libraries across the U.S. The budget for the Public Library Fund in Ohio was reduced to 84.3 million U.S. dollar, which led the Meigs County District Public Library board to close the Middleport, Racine and Eastern branches. The Cuyahoga County Public Library announced the elimination of 41 positions to offset a revenue reduction until 2010. Meanwhile, Hawaii State Librarian Richard Burns asked the state Board of Education to close five public libraries.
