    • Abstract:
The article presents a response to the essay "Terrorism and the American Experience: A State of the Field," by Beverly Gage, which appeared elsewhere in the issue. It considers historical scholarship on terrorism, examining classifications and definitions of terrorism, particularly in legal contexts. The author also explores the history of domestic terrorism in the U.S., commenting on anarchists and the Irish group the Fenians. Investigations of informants and military training in terrorism scholarship are also considered.
