      The article responds to critiques of the author's essay "Terrorism and the American Experience: A State of the Field," published elsewhere in the issue. It examines the arguments of several critics, including scholars Ann Larabee, Jeremy Varon, and Dipak K. Gupta. The author particularly reflects on the relationship between governments and terrorists, analyzed as nonstate actors. She also comments on the concept of American exceptionalism and the history and study of right-wine terrorism and political violence in the U.S.
