      The article provides an analysis of the role of the ginga technique in capoeira. The author provides information on capoeira's incorporation of dance, martial arts, music, theater, and oral history, and describes the ginga technique. Various functions of ginga within capoeira are highlighted such as providing alert relaxation, creating visual dissonance of the body, and generating syncopated pathways. Capoeira is discussed as a form of cultural resistance to Western values.
