    • Abstract:
The article examines the developing relationship between Brazil and Africa. It notes that Brazil's low-profile engagement in Africa is motivated more by its role as a partner for development goals rather than business interests. It cites key areas of Brazilian involvement in development assistance to Africa including poverty alleviation, relief against Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), and energy security. The article attributes the shift of Brazil's foreign policy goals in Africa to the leadership of former Brazilian President Lula da Silva.
