    • Abstract:
A major conference focusing on the issues related to the mental health of African-Americans is scheduled for April 26, 2003 at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, at Central Park West in New York City. The conference, “African-Americans and Mental Health: Bridging the Gap and Making the Connections,” is presented by the Black Psychiatrists of Greater New York and is intended to increase the visibility of issues facing agencies, individual practitioners and faith-based providers who are currently delivering mental hygiene services to minorities in the New York. Former Surgeon General, David Satcher, is to deliver the keynote address and discuss his two landmark studies: 1999's “Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General,” and the 2001 “Supplemental Report”. A distinguished group of panelists has been invited to respond to Batcher's remarks by providing insight and direction into these issues. The conference will feature demonstrations of telepsychiatry and telemedicine, with commentary from leading experts in this cutting-edge technology.
