- Abstract: The article profiles the American Conservatory Theater (ACT) group, with a focus on its history in Chicago, Illinois. Topics include the theatrical culture of the city in the 1950s, the founding of ACT in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1965, and the company's successful appearance at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, Illinois in 1966. ACT's presence in the city, the struggle of the company settling in Chicago or San Francisco, California, the company's director William Ball are also discussed.
