      The article proposes design criteria for a more aging-resident-friendly level of care. A social model assisted living environment that promotes socialization and community might be the answer. Based on the experience of several continuing care retirement communities in the mid-Atlantic region, the right environment has been found to provide an attractive alternative to the problems associated with aging in place in the wrong place.
