    • Abstract:
The article presents information on Giorgione's painting "Tempesta." It is informed that the walls in the background of the Tempesta display the signs both of Venetian hegemony, the Lion of St Mark, and of the former Carrara domination of Padua which served as a pretext for the emperor's recent seizure of the city. It is reported that the earliest known reference to the Tempesta dates to 1530, when the patrician connoisseur Marcantonio Michiel noted its presence in the collection of Gabriele Vendramin. According to the author, the Tempesta is not a public painting, but it has parallels among Giorgione's other private images.
