In May 1963, a group of African leaders gathered in Ethiopia to found the Organization of African Unity. Its charter pledged to 'eradicate all forms of colonialism from Africa.' Individuals involved include Kwame Nkrumah, Abubakar Balewa, Gamal Nasser, Haile Selassie I, Leopold Senghor, Ahmed Toure, Jomo Kenyatta, Julius Nyerere, and William Tubman.
