- Abstract: The article examines how fantasy is fundamentally a literature of desire. It is stated that Lev Grossman's recent novel "The Magicians" has been described by George R.R. Martin, of Game of Thrones fame, as being solidly rooted in the traditions of both fantasies and mainstream literary fiction. We noted that the genre of fantasy has been understood as stemming from Medieval Romance and fairy tales, and, even further back, from myths and legends of the ancients.
