      The article presents a guide to the life and works of author Rebecca West. Born Cicily Isabel Fairfield on December 21, 1892, in London, England, the youngest of three daughters of Charles Fairfield, a journalist, and Isabella Fairfield, a classically trained pianist. She published her first book, Henry James, a critical study in 1916. In 1918 she published her first novel, The Return of the Soldier. She died on March 15, 1983 in London due to old age.
