The article discusses about substantial bodies of material specifically written for children. Indeed, it must be recognized that almost all children's literature, even today, has some design on improving its young readers and although Mary Martha Sherwood was mainly concerned with keeping children from a life of vice and crime, the impulse to teach the young idea how to shoot is still strong. In the last century, there has been a substantial development in the writing of poetry for children.
