      This article profiles author and illustrator Janina Domanska. Domanska, an award-winning illustrator in Poland, studied in Italy. Domanska concentrated on illustrating folktales, bringing her own vision to each story she retold and illustrated. In 1972, If All the Seas Were One Sea was named Ala Caldecott Medal Honor Book, the culmination of many honors she had received over the years for books such as The Golden Seed and The Coconut Thieves.
