      This article focuses on the life and works of author Joseph Krumgold. In 1953 he was commissioned to adapt his film "… And Now Miguel" into a children's book. Krumgold was the first recipient to be awarded two Newbery Medals despite his first career interest in the movies. He was reared in a movie-oriented family in the early 1900s. His father owned and operated movie houses and his brother was an organist accompanying silent pictures. Krumgold received a bachelor's degree from New York University with majors in English and history. He became significantly involved in virtually all aspects of the movie production business as a screenwriter, producer, director, and owner of Joseph Krumgold Productions. As an established screenwriter of more than twenty works, many of which were documentaries, Krumgold had created myriad works to his credit. He received the American Library Association Newbery Award for the film … And Now Miguel in the U.S.
