    • Abstract:
This article profiles author and illustrator Anita Lobel. She was born in 1934 in Krakow, Poland. Born to a Jewish family living in Krakow, Poland, she literally had no childhood or formal education until she was twelve. Her first picture book, Sven's Bridge, published in 1965, was reissued in 1992. Lobel has illustrated nearly forty books, some of them her own-- such as Alison's Zinnia (1990), an alphabet book of flowers, and On Market Street (1981) written by Arnold Lobel, which earned her a Caldecott Medal Honor for the illustrations.
