    • Abstract:
This article presents information on the inaugural Bookseller Bestseller Awards, sponsored by the periodical "Bookseller," which took place in London, England, this week. There are 16 categories in all, covering the whole spectrum of the British publishing industry from debut fiction to academic writing, the latest children's picture book hit to bestselling backlist. The book "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," was, indisputably, the publishing event of 2005. Although intense price rivalry between supermarkets and chains caused a stir among independent booksellers, which felt deep discounting was in danger of pricing them out of the market on a series they had helped create, Harry six more than lived up to its hype. The book "The Da Vinci Code," by Dan Brown, has taken the top four slots in the mass market paperbacks of the year chart, in a pattern reminiscent of their dominance of the Top 50 throughout 2005.
