    • Abstract:
The article profiles illustrator and author Cheryl Harness, who lives in an arts and crafts-era home in Independence, Missouri. She uses her home as the setting of her first novel "Just for You to Know." Harness grew up in a large family. Her father worked for a farm equipment company, and her mother was a homemaker. She enjoyed Art and English in school. Harness attended Central Missouri State University, where she got a degree in art education in 1973. She worked as a waitress, an art supply seller, and a theme park portrait artist. She also spent eight years at Current Inc., maker of greeting cards. She claims that she discovered a love for history later in life. Her first historical picture book was "Three Young Pilgrims."
