      An interview with author Elise Broach is presented. Broach claims that her inspiration in writing "Masterpiece" was stories like "The Borrowers" and "Charlotte's Web" and an experience she had in graduate school in 1980. She also states that the reason why she chose Albrecht Dürer for "Masterpiece" is his intricate style and miniature pen-and-ink drawings. She states the difference between writing for children and writing for teens is the specific requirements of writing a picture book.
