      An Interview with Avi, the 2003 Newbery Medal Winner for "Crispin: The Cross of Lead," is presented. When asked about how does he feel to say goodbye to the characters with the publication of "Poppy and Ereth", he states that he enjoys with the characters. He did not want to inflict the death of Poppy on his readers, however, he want to create a metaphor for fundamental change. He likes to write good stories even though people will criticize his novels as a cutting edge.
