    • Abstract:
A literary criticism of the book "Arráncame la Vida," by Angeles Mastretta is presented. It examines the female protagonist and compares her to perceived cultural stereotype female characters in film during Mexico's Golden Age of filmmaking, specifically Crepúsculo and María Candelaria. It highlights the use of a female narrator in the novel and cites the narrator's ironic distance as shown in the first sentence. A rationalization of Mastretta's chosen setting is offered along with reactions from other critics.
