    • Abstract:
The author cites Rupert Kathner's 1951 film "The Glenrowan Affair," about the exploits of bushranger Ned Kelly as a leading example of Australian Bad cinema. He notes how Kathner's predilection for the docudrama style and obsession with conspiracy theories could be seen in the film, especially in its treatment of the myth of Dan Kelly's escape, and describes Kelly cinema's awkward relationship with serious Kelly history. Finally, he accounts for the film's Badness in relation to Kathner's defiance of the Australian film industry during his time.
