The article features Alvaro Cepeda Samudio, a Colombian journalist, editor, novelist, short-story writer and member of the Barranquilla Group. He was born on March 30, 1926 to Luciano Cepeda y Roca and Sara Samudio in Barranquilla, Colombia. Cepeda went to school at the Colegio American and the Colegio de Barranquilla. He also studied English in the U.S. on a government grant. Cepeda's best known works include La casa grande, an account of the Banana Massacre of 1928 and Los cuentos de Juana, a parade of ever changing, inconsistent identities.
