      The article presents a discussion of the American children's literature landscape, adapted from children's book author and poet Kwame Alexander's acceptance speech at the American Library Association Conference in San Francisco, California on June 28, 2015. Particular focus is given to a gathering at fellow author Jacqueline Woodson's Brooklyn, New York City home. Also mentioned are the changes offered by writers and personal significance of the award. Two untitled poems are also given.
