    • Abstract:
The author introduces the so-called silent books -- the visual narrations that can interpret emotions and pull the reader into the fantasy world, but, at the same time, convey facts and provide verifiable information. Silent books can be used universally as they do not require translation or knowledge of the cultural background. The article, written in cooperation with PhDr. Hana Ondrejičková (BIBIANA, the International House of Art for Children), describes the brief history of silent books. By comparison with the classic books, it looks into their purpose and who they are meant for. The article also deals with the position of silent books in libraries in Slovakia, where these titles are often categorized among board books, picture books, and comic books. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
