    • Abstract:
The article looks at the transition that many public school libraries are making to becoming learning commons. The author introduces topics that include the question of what a modern school library media center should do, the fact that many nationally recognized library professionals consider the crisis in school libraries to be a problem without a solution, and the need for a recognized blueprint schools could follow. As result, she offers insight into her extensive planning as the media specialist for the Beaufort Elementary school in Beaufort, South Carolina. Topics include her introduction of a mini computer lab, a multimedia production team, and a listening station for audio books.
